Non-Electric Firearms, also called Smokers, are generally what the galaxy calls weapons that use gunpowder to shoot bullets at a target. Smokers are an old technology and a common breakthrough in weapons development for most alien species.

In many places, they still serve ceremonial value, but due to their reduced efficiency in some atmospheres and their low power in comparison to modern LARs, they have largely been replaced.

However, due to a rise in the super soldiers known as Conduits and their ability to manipulate the electromagnetic field, Smokers have regained popularity among Conduit hunters, as these weapons cannot be rendered useless by a Conduit.
