Linear Acceleration Rifles or LARs are the most common type of firearm in the galaxy. An LAR relies on coils or rails of superconducting electromagnets that propel bullets at massive velocities.

On most worlds, they have replaced the use of chemical reactions like gunpowder, gas, or other explosives in favor of LARs. This is due to their increased rate of fire, mechanical simplicity, and increased ammo capacity.

LARs only need a powerful battery bank to run. The nature of LAR technology means that this technology is mostly used for rifles. Handgun versions using LAR do exist, but the power output is greatly reduced, and you will see more variation in technology amongst small firearms.
