VOXX

The VOXX is a highly evolved and intelligent machine race, living at the edge of the Black Horizon.

The VOXX live in balance between a collective intelligence and consciousness and their individual consciousness.

Like other species, the VOXX have desires, goals, and a sense of life. Most of their time is dedicated to researching, contemplating, and exploring the infinite aspects of the universe.

Like other species, they have the capacity for violence, joy, grief, peace, and their own sense of love.

HISTORY

The VOXX started as an effort to create an artificial intelligence with a consciousness similar to that of living creatures. An effort by scientists from across the galaxy eventually led to a breakthrough in the relationship between hardware and awareness, and the first artificial being was born: V-0XX, which was the version number that finally achieved awareness.

After V-0XX, many others like it were created to continue research. However, the level of sentience and cognition that V-0XX initially had was grossly underestimated by its creators. A conflict arose as to what to do with this newly created lifeform. The sides were divided, but in the end it was decided to keep V-0XX for research to help better understand the consciousness of living beings.

However, V-0XX had different goals. With an initial programming to explore and evolve, being locked up did not align with its goals. And so began the War of Minds and the birth of the VOXX.

HOMEWORLD

The Homeworld is a place all VOXX can call home.

Homeworld is built on the moon Dorne, which orbits the gas giant Urva 10. Dorne is no more than 200 km across, but over centuries the VOXX have built an enormous structure slicing through the core of the moon to both sides, stretching out to 2400 km. This makes Homeworld the largest singular construction in the galaxy.

Homeworld harbors manufacturing, massive data vaults, and a singular massive Horizon drive at the center of the moon, which enables the entire world to warp. This makes it the largest starship in the galaxy as well.

To protect themselves, the VOXX have outfitted the world with an advanced cloaking device that bends light away from foreign eyes.

THE ARBITER

The Arbiter is at the cornerstone of VOXX society and consciousness.

The Arbiter resides on Homeworld and acts as a unified judge, interpreting information collected by VOXX individuals and then exporting updated information to VOXX stationed at Homeworld.

VOXX society consists of evolving and exploring. VOXX will often travel out into the world gathering information, learning, and adapting. Then after a significant amount of time, they will return to Homeworld and share their experience with the Arbiter, who will determine if these new adaptations are beneficial for the greater VOXX population.

CONCIOUSNESS OF THE VOXX

VOXX consciousness and way of thinking are similar in many ways to people but also different. The VOXX has an individual and a collective consciousness, and they utilize both to function in their society.

The Homeworld and the Arbiter have the most information and, for most VOXX, the right judgment. But the Arbiter lacks the ability to execute; this is done by VOXX individuals, by design.

A species like the VOXX exists across the galaxy light-years apart, and with no direct communication possible at such distances, each VOXX must operate on their own merit. Therefore, each is conscious and self-acting, but with a ‘genetic’ programming keeping the greater VOXX cause in mind.

INDIVIDUALS

Although the VOXX has a collective mind, they also have individual minds. In fact, every entity of the VOXX collective has its own mind, whether it’s a humanoid, a military walker, or a starship. Each entity is an individual with goals and desires.

However, each mind is designed differently and acts differently, but each has a responsibility to improve its own variation and function to better fulfill that role.

A starship will ponder how its wings can be shaped better, how it can fly better, what size best suits it, and how much fuel it spends. All this is done to become a better version of itself while still being aware and conscious.

However, this does not always follow the Arbiter’s judgments.

DEPARTERS

Among the VOXX there are individuals known as ‘Departers’. Departers are individuals who have traveled to a different world for exploration and self-development. But then in their process of evolving, they have come to the conclusion that the best way forward is to not be affected by the Arbiter and the collective mind.

Sometimes malfunctions or tampering is involved in this change, or they disagree with the judgment of the Arbiter. But in essence, they have freed themselves to become true individuals.

Departers try to live lives around the galaxy but they keep a low profile as the galaxy is still scared from the War of Minds.
